Let It Burn! Keeping Your Prayer Life Alive
In the book of Leviticus 6:13, we find a powerful message: “Remember the fire must be kept burning on the altar at all times; it must never go out.” This verse serves as the foundation for our exploration of the significance of the altar, the concept of sacrifice, and the importance of prayer and praise in our lives as believers.
Keep Constant in Prayer
An altar is described as “a table or platform for the presentation of religious offerings, for sacrifices, and other ritualistic purposes.” These altars are places of worship where we come before God to offer our devotion.
Upon seeking God’s guidance, we realize that we are the sacrifice. Our worship, commitment, praise, and lifestyle are the living sacrifice, as Romans 12:1 states: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
The Power of Prayer
Hebrews 13:15 reminds us to “offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually.” To keep the fire burning on the altar, we must continue in our sacrifices of praise, praying without ceasing, and giving thanks in everything, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us, according to the Scriptures.
A Personal Testimony:
I can recount a recent experience where a friend of mine faced a difficult decision. Her best friend’s mother was on life support and she felt helpless. She wanted to offer some form of support but felt like nothing she thought of would help the situation. After listening to her concerns.
The advice I felt lead to give was simple but profound: All I could muster was “The most powerful thing you can do is pray.” Often times we don’t recognize the great power our prayer life holds.
Our prayers have the authority to move heaven and earth, to speak change into existence, and to affect the circumstances around us. While she felt helpless, I had to remind her that she still had the ability to pray to God on behalf of her friend, which may not feel like much but it’s the most powerful thing she could do.
The Power of Praise:
The bible encourages the believer to continue in prayer and praise, regardless of the circumstances:
– Pray in good times
– Pray in hard times
– Pray in happy times
– Pray in sad times
– Praise in good times
– Praise in hard times
– Praise in happy times
– Praise in sad times
Conclusion:
Leviticus 6:13, urges the believers to keep the fire burning on the altar of their hearts. It emphasizes the power of prayer and praise and calls upon us to maintain our devotion and commitment.
As we do so, we remember the words: “Remember the fire must be kept burning on the altar at all times; it must never go out.” Don’t stop praying, don’t stop believing, keep constant in prayer and watch God move.
Let it burn, saints!
